This is Coach Derek’s 11th year as Head Coach of the Greatwood Geysers and his 13th year of being a head swim coach of a summer swim team. He swam for Eastern Michigan University from 1999-2002 where he won 4 conference championships, and is currently 6th all time in the 100 meter backstroke. In high school he qualified for the state championships all 4 years, was all-state 3 times, and was a High School All-American his senior year. He has swam for a USS swim team from the time he was 8, until he went to college. While swimming USS, Coach Derek had multiple individual state championships, he was on 4 state championship teams, set 6 state relay records and one national relay record. “Hard work, and a smile on your face are the two qualities that I have tried very hard to show our swimmers what is needed to be a successful Geyser!”
Coach Rachel has been coaching for eight years and giving swim lessons for 10 years. She started swimming competitively when she was 8 years old.
Growing up, she swam summer league with SHRSL and was an All-Star qualifier every year. She then went on to club and high school swimming and swam for the Fort Bend Austin HS Varsity Swim Team all four years of high school. Throughout her years there, she got to compete in the 100 Breaststroke, 100 Backstroke, 200 IM, and 200 Freestyle Relay at the Regional and State competitions. She earned an academic and athletic scholarship to the University of Houston where she swam for 3 years. She currently coaches for Platinum Aquatics as well as coaching here with the Geysers. 2016 is her 5th year with the Geysers. She absolutely love coaching and wouldn’t give it up for anything!
She also does water safety and learn-to-swim lessons as well as lessons with current swimmers looking to refine their strokes, turns, or starts! She does lessons at the Greatwood Pools (1 & 2) as well as at her club team’s pool. She can also do learn-to-swim lessons at your home pool if you would prefer! The cost is $25 per 30-minute lesson or $45 per 1-hour lesson. She is available for lessons Monday-Friday 11am-4pm or anytime on the weekends during the summer time.
If you are interested in private lessons, please give her a call or send an email and we can get it scheduled!
