Swimmer Eligibility & Meet Participation

The Southwest Houston Recreational Swim League (SHRSL) Season is defined as May 31st of current season through the Post Season All Star Meet.

  • A swimmer’s age on May 31st of the current year shall determine the age group for competition.
  • A swimmer may not change their team affiliation after May 15; after which, a swimmer shall practice and compete with only one SHRSL swim team per season.
  • A swimmer participating in any NCAA Swimming program (practice OR competition) is ineligible for SHRSL participation.
  • A swimmer may not participate nor compete in a non-SHRSL practice(s) or competition after April 30. (*See e. for swimmer considerations)
  • Allowed is participation for school related, academic grade in an Olympic Development program, such middle school or high school swimming programs, may continue to practice through the end of the academic year,
  • No participation in competition or sanctioned meets including UIL, USA Swimming, CCAA or any other swimming competition is allowed.

Minimum Swim Requirements: The swim team is not a learn-to-swim program, but is intended to enhance the skills already learned from swim lessons. We do teach competitive strokes to those swimmers who desire to compete. All swimmers who feel they can reach the eligibility requirements and timeframe listed below are welcome to register and begin practicing with the team. Eligibility AFTER MAY 31: 4- to 7-year-old swimmers must be able to swim the length of the pool unassisted (25 yards). This means no hanging on a lane rope, the side of the pool or a coach. Swimmers aged 8 - 10 years old should have a working knowledge of all four strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) and should be legal (i.e., have meet-qualified form) in at least two strokes. Swimmers who are 11 & older must be able to swim two lengths of the pool (50 yards) in at least two strokes. Other Considerations for Participation: Swimmers are encouraged to attend as many practices as possible. Lack of attendance could affect relay participation. Parent involvement is required of each family with a child on the team. (See Family Participation Information) Greatwood residents must be in good standing with the HOA per HOA pool-use rules (i.e. annual dues paid).

Meet Attendance Requirement

Geyser swimmers must attend two of five meets to be eligible for the team and swim in SHRSL post-season meets. When registering, you must do so with the intent of swimming the entire season (excluding Champions Meet and All-Stars). We understand that swimmers may have to miss a meet or two due to illness, a family emergency or some other unavoidable situation. If you register without the intent of swimming all season, this is unfair to those who are willing to make this commitment. We rely heavily on parent volunteers to run our meets. If several families leave before the season is over, this makes it difficult to manage and run our meets efficiently. It also places an undue burden on our other Geyser families. If you do not fulfill the meet attendance or your volunteer requirements, you will not be eligible to register with returning families for the 2024 season (please see our Family Participation Information for more info. on your options). Thank you for your cooperation!

Practice Times

Daily practices for the Geysers are tentatively scheduled to begin May 1st. Click here for up-to-date information regarding practice times and location.

Team Suits

Agon is the company we use for our custom dyed suits. We order in "bulk" so everything will be sent directly to a Board Member and then distributed at a practice before the Mock Meet/Pictures.

The purchase of a team suit is optional, but highly recommended.

Swimsuit Swap

If you have a team suit you'd like to sell from last season bring it in a gallon size ziplock bag labeled with the following: name, phone #, size, price when we announce swimsuit swap days.

Personalized Silicone Swim Caps

Check out our online shop to order your swimmer a personalized swim cap. Each swimmer received a swim cap included with registration, but there is an additional cost for personalization or additional caps. The caps can be personalized with your swimmer’s first name, last name or nickname. All personalization orders will be due in early May.

Sponsors Needed

The Geysers love their sponsors!! Please let our 2024 sponsors know how much we appreciate their support. We would not be able to offer the quality program that we do without their support. If you know of or own a business that would like to sponsor this terrific team of swimmers, please contact Doug Teague by clicking here to email him. Family and parking spot sponsorships will also be available. View sponsorship opportunities
