2020 Swim Meets 101

MEET PARTICIPATION

For every meet you will need to "declare" if your swimmer(s) will attend the meet or not. Under the "Schedules" tab on our website the "Meet Entry" button is now green. Please click on that button. Scroll to the bottom of the page; select the green edit button and choose attending or not attending for each of your swimmers.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS IN PLACE

  • We are asking that all volunteers (regardless of position) wear a mask.
  • We will be utilizing 6 lanes for each heat. We will not swim lanes 3 or 6 to allow spacing for our volunteers and swimmers.
  • There will be no relays.
  • No chairs on deck; you can come in and watch your swimmer, but parents must sit outside the gate.
  • Ready benches will be placed behind the swim lanes with fewer swimmers occupying them. Maximum # of swimmers will be 2 with one swimmer standing for their next event.
  • Ribbons will be given out by the tent parents.
  • Swimmer numbers will be applied prior to swimmer arriving to minimize contact. We are asking parents to fully mark up their children before arriving.
  • We will have volunteers at the entrance and exits to the pool. One gate for will be used for entrance to the pool and one gate for exit.
  • Swimmer tents will be spaced out and all will be encouraged to space out chairs. We are setting up extra Age Group tents and spreading them out further.
  • We will not have a Galley this season, so be sure to pack water and snacks

VOLUNTEER REQUIREMENTS

There will be no volunteer points this year.

Every family will be required to sign up for 1 volunteer position at each meet their child is swimming. If you have a swimmer in both halves, you will only need to volunteer 1 half of the meet. Sign-ups opened on 06/08, be sure to sign up if you haven’t yet.

PARENTS WILL FULLY MARK UP THEIR CHILDREN BEFORE ARRIVING

(Swimmer number and events). To assist the tent parents and to reduce contact, before you report for the meet, please use a black sharpie marker to write the assigned number (including the GG) on your swimmer's left shoulder blade and left hand. On the inside of the right forearm, write the swimmer events. Rachel will have the report and we will send it out tomorrow along with a picture as an example.

PLAN TO ARRIVE NO LATER THAN 4:00pm for 10 and Under and 6:00pm for 11 and Ups.

We will warm-up first and the meet will officially begin at 4:30 and 6:30 pm. We have incorporated several 5 minute breaks in the meets so that the swimmers can have a break between events. Swimmers should wear their suit to the meet and have their goggles properly fitted. If possible, we are asking that your children sit with their family close to the Age Group tent(s). If your only family member present is volunteering at the meet, those kids will be spread at least 6 feet apart in their age group tent.

PLEASE DO NOT PUT SUNSCREEN ON SWIMMERS BEFORE THEY ARRIVE.

The marker won’t write on top of sunscreen. The Tent Parents will help apply it after marking them up if you send it with them.

6 AND UNDERS WILL COMPETE IN FREESTYLE ONLY.

They may leave after their event. There will be a tent parent that will be responsible for staying until the end of the 10 and Under meet for parents with other swimmers or are volunteering.

7/8′s AND 9/10′s MAY COMPETE IN UP TO TWO INDIVIDUAL EVENTS.

The Coaches will determine in which events they will participate. However,11/12′s, 13/14′s AND OPEN (15 thru 18) MAY COMPETE IN UP TO THREE INDIVIDUAL EVENTS.

The Coaches will determine in which events they will participate.

Even a disqualified swimmer receives a Participation Ribbon.

WE WILL BE UPLOAD SWIMMER TIMES AS SOON AS POSSIBLE AFTER THE MEET.

You will be able to view these times when you login to your account on Swimtopia.

A SWIMMER MAY BE DQ’D BY A STROKE JUDGE FOR IMPROPERLY PERFORMING A STROKE.

This happens to even the best swimmers at times. If you want to understand stroke technique and help your child develop, please attend a League Stroke Clinic. Use of lane ropes, pool sides, or bottom of pool will result in a DQ.

SWIMMERS SHOULD STAY IN THEIR TENT THROUGHOUT THE MEET.

The Tent Parents assigned to the tent need to know where the swimmers are at all times. They must be available for their events. If you want to take them to the Concession Stand or elsewhere, please “check them out” with the Tent Parents.

BRING CHAIRS FOR YOUR SWIMMER

It’s a good idea to pack water and healthy snacks/sandwiches to get you and your gang through the meet. We will not have a Galley this season. Pack separately for each swimmer since they will be eating with their groups.

FEEL FREE TO BRING THINGS TO ENTERTAIN YOUR CHILD DURING THE MEET.

Books, coloring books, cards, are all good ideas. Don’t bring anything valuable, or anything you don’t want to lose. LABEL EVERYTHING.

GATHER YOUR THINGS BEFORE IT GETS DARK.

Once the sun goes down it is hard to find things in the dark. Please, please, please help pick up trash and keep the area clean.

PARENTS MAY BRING LAWN CHAIRS TO set up outside of the pool gates since inside is for swimmers, coaches, board members, volunteers, and race viewing only!
